YouTube Music launched its own personalized playlist "My Mix" on November 9th, which is similar to the Daily Mixes playlist on the Spotify platform. YouTube said that My Mix will focus on the different interests of users, allowing users to explore a specific type or style of music in depth.
After this launch, up to 7 “My Mix” playlists will be featured on the Home tab of YouTube Music. These lists will display the users' favorite tunes, as well as potential new tunes that is in line with the user's favorite style.
In addition, YouTube is also rebranding its personalized playlist previously called “Your Mix.” To better clarify its purpose and eliminate possible confusion with the new “My Mix” playlists, this playlist will now be called “My Supermix,” and will combine all of a user’s music tastes into one playlist, like Spotify’s “Discover Weekly.”
Furthermore, YouTube also said that the Home tab and personalized options of YouTube Music will also be updated.
After the update, a new activity bar will appear on the Home tab of YouTube Music, which offers access up to four activity types, including Workout, Focus, Relax and Commute.
By clicking on the activity, the user will enter a dedicated personalized home page with a variety of playlists suited to the selected activity. The "Workout" tab can accommodate up to four personalized playlists.
A report released by the streaming media technology analysis company MIDiA in June showed that in the global streaming media platform market, Google ranked fifth with a 6% share, behind Spotify, Apple, Amazon and Tencent.
However, this report also suggested that YouTube Music's appeal to young users can help Google to turn things around, as its market share increased by 3% from 2018 Q1 2019 Q1.
The YouTube company said that the YouTube Music update will arrive on the 9th.
